Kardashian and Disick’s conversation where Kardashian gave Disick tips on public speaking went a little something like this:

Kim: My motto, you have to explain every last thing really thoroughly, even if you think it’s like a dumb thing, you have to assume they don’t know, and you have to thoroughly get into it.

Kim: I would come out, and be like, ‘Hi I’m Scott’ ….. and say your journey.

Scott: How do I keep the people engaged?

Kim: First: Having a plan, have an intro and that intro can include A, B and C. This is how you grew up, you moved to California when you were however year old….

Scott: Just to kill some time?

Kim: Time fillers, that’ll kill 10 min, you know?

Kim proceeds to stand Scott up and she throws some questions at him to see how prepared he is. He isn’t at all. He doesn’t seem to like the process because he stops Kim telling her that he should have asked someone less famous to help him.

In fairness, Disick is not wrong. Look how famous Kim Kardashian West is, she’s speaking at the White House.

Enter Daniela.

I’m not famous at all. Not like Kim anyway.

So I’ll help you Scott. I got your back.

I know that Kim Kardashian West has a plethora of public speaking experience under her belt, and with a fee ranging between $100,000 to $1,000,000 an appearance, I’m sure she knows what she is doing. However, upon seeing this video, I thought I’d break it down, as a less famous person, and give Scott Disick some personal tips on how to best prepare for his presentation.

Tell Your Story, But Not Just To Kill Time

Speaking in public is always a little daunting, and the idea of keeping an audience entertained for forty-five minutes can be particularly unnerving.

I agree with Kim Kardashian, it is always essential to start a presentation telling your story, but don’t do it just to “kill time.” You want to be able to connect with your audience, and not have them think that you are rambling for the sake of killing time.

Kim Kardashian mentions to include A, B & C to get into but she never seems to delve any further on the best way to introduce yourself, let’s come up with some A, B & C’s to help her finish off that train of thought:

A. What do you want your audience to know about you? What are your key values? Once you have a clear idea of what image of yourself you wish to portray, pick a story that best illustrates this concept. Kim Kardashian mentions that Disick should talk about his move to California, if your roots and your origins are an important part of your values and story, by all means, mention it.

B. Think of your transformation story, people are interested in thought process and understanding how someone got from point A to point B. So establish a moment where your perspective changed and you learnt to see ideas from a new point of view.

C. Just like an essay, you would write, you want to forewarn your audience what the rest of the speech will entail, so outline how your story and the lessons you’ve learnt lead you to the stage today, and give an incling into what direction this talk will go.

Treat The Speech Like Lots of Mini Talks

After Kardashian’s quick explanation on how to introduce himself, Kim Kardashian and Scott Disick jump straight into question and answer format, but there would be a whole section missing. They seem to have ignored the content of the speech.

Don’t think of the upcoming talk as one really long climb, instead take it step by step, and focus on reaching small peaks, one at a time. With longer presentations, it is vital to have a clear structure in order to not confuse your audience so when structuring your talk make sure you have certain points that you want to touch upon. Structure your talk like you would an article or an essay, and think that each point can be the title of a section. Within these sections, you then flesh it out by telling relevant stories, facts or appropriate imagery.

Be Well Prepared Scott

Kim Kardashian whips out a couple of questions that Scott Disick can’t seem to answer. It is vital to be well researched in the topics you will be delving into during your speech in order to make sure that no question can be too overwhelming. It is also important to note that if you touch upon a topic, even briefly, you may be questioned and asked about it. Therefore, try to stay on track and not throw in any concepts that you may not fully understand or have developed in your mind.

Above all

It must be difficult to not feel pressure with an Instagram following of over 23 million ( I would know I have around 800 followers so it’s basically the same…) but it is important to:

Keep calm and confident.

Deliver your story with honesty and passion. Make sure you come to a conclusion by tying the anecdote together and finish off like a fable would, by sharing a lesson learned or a moral to the talk.

Through being sincere, caring about your speech, preparing, educating yourself or others, and appreciating your audience’s time, you should have no problem in delivering a compelling and interesting talk.

Best of luck Scott (though your talk has probably already passed as Keeping Up With The Kardashian is filmed ages before it aires.
